These Days

I used to chase perfection like it owed me money.

The right career.
The right bank account.
The right woman who’d never change her mind.

Turns out life isn’t interested in playing along.

Success shows up drunk and leaves early.
Failure kicks the door in unannounced.

At some point I stopped trying to keep the table spotless.

Now I notice things.

Coffee spilling.
Dirt on fresh clothes.
Plans breaking in the middle of the day like cheap glass.

Funny thing is

Life feels better when you stop pretending it’s supposed to be clean.
